It’s Healthy Ageing Month!

There are not many certainties in life, but one thing is for sure, everybody ages! Some of us age well, some struggle... But it is never too late to keep an eye on your health and wellbeing with the future in mind.

Here at Opera, we are very keen to promote a healthy lifestyle to keep you at your peak for even longer!

Here are our top 10 tips for remaining healthy:

1. Sleep

This first one won’t surprise you. As the trusted experts in care beds & mattresses for you and your family, we know just how important it is to get enough sleep to keep you fresh for the next day! Picking the correct bed and mattress will never have been more important and we’ve got some perfect options for you! Our adjustable beds come in a range of different sizes and all have premium mattress options to make sure you get that quality night of sleep. Check out our range by clicking here.

2. Stay in Touch

It’s so important to keep right up-to-date with what’s going on in the world and in your local area. Trips out to see old friends and loved ones are a great way of improving your mood and give you something to look forward to. It’s never been easier to stay connected with your close ones via email, phone calls and several social network channels.

3. Keep Moving

Where possible, it is good to maintain regular exercise on a weekly basis to keep the body and brain active. This could be anything from going to the gym, attending a yoga class, going on a long walk or even a spot of gardening in the afternoon. It’s very important to keep as active as possible. If you do happen to be bed bound for a prolonged amount of time then there are several leg and arm exercises you can do in the bed to keep yourself active. Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals have created a list of suggested exercises achievable whilst in bed.

4. Eat Well

A healthy diet is essential for staying at your peak. As well as your obvious fruit and vegetable options, it is suggested that eating beans and other high-fibre foods aid digestion and maintaining a healthy heart. As you begin to age you need fewer calories, but you still need just as many nutrients as you did ten years before. Nutrient-dense foods such as brown rice, eggs and seafood are best for this.

5. Don’t Forget

We can all be found guilty of forgetting the odd birthday or maybe that doctor’s appointment booked months ago. However, part of remaining healthy whilst you age is keeping the brain active. To aid your memory you could try making lists, following your routines, slowing down and trying to remain as organised as possible.

6. Stay Comfortable

As much as it is important to keep moving, it’s equally important that you’re as comfortable as possible when you are stationary. A bad night’s sleep on a mattress which just isn’t right for you will do nothing to help your personal wellbeing. Here at Opera we prioritise your needs to be both practical and comfortable. Our range of divan adjustable beds offer the ultimate comfort level, whilst also providing that tilt function for practicality.

7. Remain Positive

Staying positive and maintaining that ‘can do’ attitude can be just as advantageous as maintaining a good physical health. Take Marjorie Scholes for example. At 80-years-old, Marjorie came second in the 2019 Adult Gymnastics British Championship last month – proving really is just a number! Take a look at Marjorie’s story.

8. Ask for Help

There are more ways to get help now than ever before. Whether it be health, product or financial advice, there are numerous people across the UK who can make your life that little bit easier. Sharing your problems with friends and relatives is said to help alleviate stress levels and help manage your own self-esteem.

9. Visit your Doctor

As much as there is plenty you can do to improve your physical health, a regular visit to the doctor throughout the year is never a bad idea to keep everything in good working order. Regular health examinations and test can help find problems before they even become a problem to your everyday life. It is recommended that you visit your doctor for a check-up at least a couple of times a year once you’re over the age of 50.

10. Treat Yourself!

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to treat yourself! Jump on a flight out to that country you always wanted to visit, install that new kitchen you’ve been talking about for years or treat yourself to one of our most luxurious beds in the Opera range with the Auriga. With a luxury padded bed base, wireless and app control options and a choice of headboards, fabrics and mattresses to suit your needs, the Auriga could be the perfect treat as you look ahead to a healthy future.
