I'm coming out of hospital. How do I get a bed for home?
If you or a loved one are currently receiving care in hospital, you will likely have been told that you need assistive equipment installing at home before you can be discharged from the hospital. This advice almost always includes the need of a suitable bed, usually in the form of an electric bed that will help you to get in and out and also ensure you are comfortable when recovering from hospital treatment.
There are two ways you can get a hospital bed for home:
1. Apply for a bed from the hospital or local council
The hospital or your local council may provide you with a bed. First speak to your occupational therapist, district nurse or GP and they will be able to tell you whether you are eligible for having a bed provided. If you are, they will also be able to put a request in to the hospital or council and arrange for delivery to your home. Please bear in mind that this option can be a lengthy process with a number of parties involved. If you are looking for a quick discharge, this may not be a viable option.
2. Purchase a bed yourself
Alternatively you can purchase a hospital bed yourself, allowing you to choose a bed that meets your care requirements whilst having a pleasant appearance.
We will be able to discuss you or your loved one's needs and recommend suitable beds that improve your mobility and ensure you are comfortable in your own home. Once you have decided on a bed, our UK-wide installation crews can come and install the bed in your home and show you how to use it. Providing you are able to afford buying a bed yourself, you will be able to choose a homely-styled bed that is best suited to your individual needs rather than a clinical-looking generic bed from your hospital or council.
